Matt Gaetz Eviscerates Liz Cheney At Wyoming Rally, Tells Crowd She Has ‘Blood’ On Her Hands

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) just can’t seem to catch a break lately. Ever since she voted to impeach former President Donald Trump after he had already left office, she has been the subject of criticism from high-profile people on the right. Now, she is under direct attack from some of her Republican colleagues in Congress. Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) traveled to Wyoming last week to stage a rally protesting Cheney’s vote.

“There’s basically two things that Liz Cheney has done in the United States Congress: frustrate the agenda of President Trump and sell out to the forever war machine,” Gaetz declared in front of a crowd of 1,000 people who congregated at the steps of the Wyoming state Capitol building on Thursday.

“This is my first time in Wyoming,” Gaetz added. “I’ve been here for about an hour, and I feel like I already know the place a lot better than your misguided representative, Liz Cheney.”

The representative responded to a barb that a member of Cheney’s team made about him earlier in the week. “Rep. Gaetz can leave his beauty bag at home,” a Cheney spokesperson said during an interview. “In Wyoming, the men don’t wear makeup.”

During the rally, Gaetz countered with his own rejoinder, drawing attention to Cheney’s record and foreign policy stances.

“Liz Cheney taunts me for wearing makeup in my television appearances,” Gaetz quipped. “Now, makeup only hides the slightest imperfections of the skin. It does very little to conceal the soulless corruption of Washington, D.C. It’s really easy for me to get a little makeup off my shirt. Far more difficult for Liz Cheney to get the blood off her hands for sending America’s best to foreign lands to die.”

The Washington Examiner noted that “Cheney has dealt with strong blowback from Trump supporters following her vote to impeach the president for ‘incitement of insurrection’ following a violent incident involving Trump supporters at the Capitol earlier this month.”

Cheney’s reputation took a massive hit after she joined with the Democrats to promote another baseless impeachment spectacle. Not only has she been heavily pilloried by the right, a recent survey revealed that 73% of Republican voters in Wyoming have an unfavorable view of her.

Still, there are some who defend her, and they are the obvious suspects. Former Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Michael Steele castigated Gaetz for daring to attack the darling of the establishment GOP. During an appearance on MSNBC, he claimed Cheney “has more bonafides in her left pinky” than Gaetz “could ever amass.”

When it comes to remaining involved in unnecessary military conflicts, Cheney has definitely amassed a certain level of bonafides. The problem is, nobody likes neocons like Steele and the rest of the war-hungry caucus.

During the interview, Steele lambasted Gaetz and the Republican Party’s leadership, insisting that they will not promote “accountability” for the riots at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.

“And for those members like a Mitt Romney or a Liz Cheney who do the right thing and step into the moment with their leadership, this is the price they pay,” he bloviated. “They get the crazies coming after them. Matt Gaetz flying across the country to go after a fellow Republican who, by the way, has more bonafides in her left pinky than he could ever amass, and he’s going to try to take her down?”

Despite protestations from establishment figures and the Lincoln Project types, the rank-and-file on the right are making their voices heard, and they are rejecting those who wish to bring us back to the days of the Romneys, the McCains, and the Bushes. These folks can continue trying to hold on to whatever relevancy they think they should have, but the writing is on the wall, and it says: “Your time is over. Please go away now.”
