Hear the Joke About the GoFundMe Page Set up to Pay off Harry and Meghan's Mortgage? – RedState

When I ran across this story, I immediately thought of The Babylon Bee, the best satire site on the planet. It wasn’t. Seems that a very caring lady in California really felt sorry for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle after watching their interview with Oprah, last week.

Sorry enough to set up a GoFundMe page, on which she hoped to raise enough money to pay off the mortgage on Meghan and Harry’s $14.7 million California estate. Why would the caring lady from California do such a thing, you ask? Because, she said, she felt sorry for them after Harry whined to Oprah that they were cut off financially by Buckingham Palace.

(Can’t make this one up, Bee.)

Anastasia Hanson, 56, California, told Britain’s The Sun that she genuinely felt sorry for the multimillionaire couple for the “very rough time” they’re going through (in her mind).

“When they came to the USA they were without jobs and with limited funds. They’ve stated that they’ve had a very rough time, so this fundraiser is a way to give help, compassion, and love by paying their home loan in full.”

(See what I mean, Bee? This would suck as satire. Not close enough to reality.)

Being the generous soul she is, it appears she might have been a bit guilty of selective hearing as she listened to Harry describe the couple’s “dire straits” to Oprah.

“My family literally cut me off financially, and I had to afford security for us,” Harry explained, as an explanation for why the power-couple has inked a “multitude of uber-lucrative media deals since leaving royal life.” In addition, 36-year-old Harry inherited roughly $13 million from the estate of his late mom, Princess Diana, when he turned 30.

Ms. Hanson also told the Sun that she personally relates to mental health and other issues the couple discussed with Oprah.

“I personally relate to mental health, racial equality, diversity, and inclusivity. They both support these issues as well. Together, they can help bring healing and restoration to the whole world.”

But alas, there apparently aren’t all that many people out there with the same degree of empathy for poor Harry and Meghan. Despite Ms. Hanson’s good Samaritan efforts, the GofFundMe page has been shut down after only raising 100 bucks — counting the five buck she kicked in, another five bucks from “Anonymous,” and $100 from “A Supporter.” Heck, maybe Meghan was trying to jumpstart the fund drive.

I was just thinking what a bummer it will be when Meghan runs for president in 2024 and wins — and has to leave all this behind and move into a hellhole like the White House. Maybe Ms. Hanson can fire up another GoFundMe to help them spruce up the place a bit.
